Wicker and the Works has had the same owner and been in the same location since 1978. We are the experts and have the best quality wicker and rattan for all your indoor and outdoor needs. We have recently expanded by opening Gallery V which is a contemporary upholstery and design studio. One of the services we offer is making new cushions for those that want to revive their old furniture.

After opening in 1978 with mostly wicker and rattan, we have slowly evolved over the years into a gifts and home accessories store. After all these years Wicker and the Works/Gallery V is still the furniture store for groovy grownups. If you have never been to the store or it's been a while, come in and see the most unique store in Des Moines.

Victoria was living in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania going to school and working part time at Wanamaker's when she found an apartment above a wicker store. The owner asked her to work for the summer and when it came fall and time to enroll in college for the fall term, the owner talked her into working full time and helping him open a new store.

After a couple of years, Victoria made a phone call home to Indianola, Iowa and asked her Dad to be partners in a joint business venture.

That's where the story starts in Valley Junction. Victoria and her father opened "Wicker World" May 5th, 1978. And, as they say, the rest is history! Wicker and the Works divided in 2005 to open Gallery V, a contemporary furniture store. We're still the furniture store for groovy grown-ups 29 years later! Through tornados, floods, the birth of two daughters and a variety of other challenges, Victoria still owns the store. Same owner, same location, same incredibly cool ever changing merchandise.

The moral of the story is you never know where life will take you or what path will open itself at any moment. Open your eyes and start the adventure. After all, Victoria says, "I always thought I'd be a teacher", who knew? . . . to top
